The ChemSafety Formaldehyde Vapor Monitor is a passive sampling device used to measure workplace exposure to formaldehyde and indoor air quality.
The air sample is collected when it diffuses through a specially prepared membrane and is collected inside the device.
Formaldehyde is considered a carcinogen. Exposure is regulated in the U.S.A. by the US Department of Labor- Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
In addition, the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) recommends exposure below the lowest measurable level. Their recommendation is 0.016 ppm for 8 hour exposure.
There are also standards for indoor air quality (IAQ) where formaldehyde can be a significant problem, especially associated with composite materials and laminated wood products.
